will31: FNL Survey Questions

Jennifoofighter: 1. The show seems extremely popular with some audiences, yet not so with others… Any ideas on this?

Sadly, I think some people are turned off by the idea of a show centered around football. They build in a natural bias so they don't tune in despite many fans and critics proclamations that it's about so much more. Those who do watch, soon learn that there are so many layers and we get drawn into the realism, humor and honesty of the show.

2. Is FNL just an exciting show aimed at jocks, or are there other messages as well?

Not at all. I am not a sports fan at all but I love this show. It's about family, love, humor, faith, hope, dreams, connecting, growing, etc. Every episode offers more elements like parental issues, marriages ups and downs, job pressure, high school angst such as school, cliques, relationships, and so much more.

3. Does FNL bring back feelings from the past (high school) or does it touch current feelings?

It definitely touches on them. I graduated from high school in 1991 and I think I relate most to Matt and Landry's version of high school most. Their lunchroom scenes totally take me back.

4. Which of the various themes (Texas high school football, or surrounding feelings, thoughts, events and everyday live, etc) do you think viewers connect with the most?

I think it's the ordinary stuff that I connect with most. The parent/child issues, relationship, Coach and Mrs. Coach's marriage, and struggling to make a living or get by.

5. Does the show effect how viewers live their daily lives or do the lessons/ emotions end when the show ends?

Hmm... I can't speak for others but I do find myself injecting some quotes into my daily life. "Texas Forever" has been a running joke between me and another friend who watches. Oh, and sometimes we joke "WWRD? What Would Riggins Do?" Does that count?

6. Do any of you think the main theme could be about youth and what a wonderful, exciting time it is in our lives (even the “bad” times)? That (speaking from a 21 year old perspective) “these are the days”. That the youth of today doesn’t appreciate many of our exciting, heart pumping experiences, whether good or bad that we have right now? All of which could soon be overshadowed or filtered out by other events after high school and/or college?

Not really. I think it's more about looking beyond the high school experience. That the world is large and there is more out there. But also relish the time you live as much as you can because you may win State one day but you are only as good as your next game.

Good luck on your paper or whatever!

matthew_fan: Season 2 , Episodes after 13?

dillonpanther33: because of the writers strike the season 2 ended up short. this is why you didn't get to know anything of the playoffs and that they didn't make it to the final. this why there is a short review to this part, that couldn't be done in season 2 on episode one in season 3. if you remember smash hurt his knee and therefor the panthers didn't get to state.

gretel: Questions for FNL experts: Name of Tyra's sister, name of stripclub, etc...

Wendy: I just saw Episode 6 online since I don't have DirectTv and I loved it.

I think one of the problems the writers have is that NBC only bought 13 episodes so it makes it difficult to go into everything, but here's what I think.

Smash was supposed to go to Whitmore College, but those small schools don't have a ton of scholoarships like the large schools. Schools like Texas A & M can offer the 3rd string punter a full ride. So I'm going to guess once he got injured, they couldn't hold his scholarship anymore and that should have been better explained.

I think Tim Riggins would have had to be held back. There is no way Tim could have graduated, another thing the writers should explain. He wasn't even doing has assignments in the first season. It also means that Lyla was engaged to Street as a Sophmore if she's only a senior now.

As for Gaius Charles, the writers said that they need to move characters on and it was hard for them to make that call to him.

It will be interesting to see what they do with Matt and Julie because they are both seniors. Also, shouldn't baby Grace be older? If we saw the baby in the 2nd season, a year has gone by and the baby looks like she's 8 or 9 months old.

dnjbrown: Worst episode in series

Wendy: I Loved Episode 6

I think we are seeing the set up for J.D. McCoy doing something bad to himself because he can't take the pressure. I also think Riggins is going to be greatly affected by what ever he does as he's the only player that sees what his father is doing to him.

If that happens, Coach Taylor is going to have to go to Matt to save the season and I think it's going to be humbling for him. You also have a story with Lila trying to change Riggins and that's going to cause problems.

Then there's the story of Matt and Julie. What if Julie turns up pregnant? How would that work in the Taylor household? Season 3 is so much better than Season 2. One of their problems is that they only have 13 episodes so they have to pick and choose what they are going to do.

DanK: Episode 201

DanK: Does anyone know where I can get a still image from episode 201. It would be from the begining of the show when Tami is walking into the pool and they are playing it in slow motion. I can't seem to find that episode online or find a still of that shot. Thanks!
