Howdy...newbie on board!  I love this show, but I only saw about half of the first season and then I lost track of it when it started switching nights.

Does anyone know if a cable channel plans to run it starting with the pilot?  I'll never catch up.

I'm so annoyed with myself.

I think they have some episodes up of it on nbc.com (not sure if they have all of them though).

If you have trouble finding them online you could always buy or rent the box set. I think season 2 box-set is supposed to come out in a month or two. And season 1 is already out.

I say just buy the first season on dvd. it's worth it. it has all the deleted scenes and behind-the-scene stuff. However, NBC is generous enough to have the first season available online and that's free of course. So, enjoy it while you can

Alias they got the second season online as well.

I know. That's how I kept up with season two because I'm not home on Friday nights. Sammie specifically asked about season one.

Hey, thanks guys.  I may give it a spin on my PC.

I appreciate it!

np at all for a fellow FNL fan. we need more of you y'all! season one on dvd is very inexpensive. $20 at target for a 22 episode, 5-disc set, with extra features. i still watch it regularly because there's so much crap on tv now, i would rather watch reruns of FNL season one than "my dad is better than your dad" or "the biggest loser." "medium" is alright. i really like how marriage is portrayed between the main characters. they have fantastic communication, like eric and tami in FNL. i know most people think tv is just tv but it influences us more than we like to admit. i want more shows that portray healthy marriages and parenting because our society is suffering in that department. forgive my vent. enjoy the free eppys on nbc.com

As long as you don't include American Idol, I'll agree

However, I didn't realize the DVD is that cheap.  I may go that route.  Too many people I know love this show and hate pretty much everything else, so that's good enough for me.

Plus I love coming-of-age football sagas.  The book was outstanding and the movie was good, too, even if Bad Santa didn't quite cut it as a high school coach.

The first season was pretty much just an expanded version of the movie or book.

Season 2 however for the most part got completely away from the football.

I love the book as well. Okay, I'm still not done reading it because of the massive reading I must do for school. I am halfway through it though. I also agree that Billy Bob was not the best choice for Gaines either but he's the only big name actor in the cast. Connie Britton had such a tiny part in the film too. She's a fantastic actress (she was great in season 5 of 24)and I'm so glad that she's one of the central figures in the show. She's my role model as far as being a loving and supportive wife and a wonderful mother.

lastcat, that's pretty ok with me.  Sooner or later I guess it does have to get into other areas.  I'm just loving what my friends say about it!

AliasJude - I agree!!  She was awesome in both roles.  I also surprisingly like Tim McGraw as the dad (although there was at least one scene that never happened in the book).

The movie did leave out some pretty major storyline, though.  Like the cheating scandal with the Dallas team.  That should have been in the flick, imo.

I didn't get to that part yet! It's okay though. I love Bissinger's writing so I don't mind rereading chapters. Yeah, the thing about adapting novels to screenplays is that it becomes an entirely new thing. Francis Ford Coppola wrote the screenplay for the film version of The Great Gatsby with Sam Waterson, Robert Redford, and I think Mia Farrow. Coppola pretty much made the screenplay exactly like the novel. That is perfect for students who procrastinate and just watch the movie. However, overall, it doesn't translate very well on screen. There are rare cases where the film is as good or much better than the novel. The two I can think of at the top of my head are The Devil Wears Prada and Atonement. A number of changes were made and parts were left out but it made the story better. I still think that the film version of FNL is well made compared to other typical sports films though.

I used to talk on the real Permian Panthers fansite for a little bit after I read the book (just to get what the opinions of the book were from people who were actually there).

And they said that he pretty much got the football part right but many of them were none to happy with the way he described the town or the people in the town.

They said that it was peposterous that he thought he could go live in a particular town for a few months and think that he could get to know the town or the people in the town well enough during that span to be able to write a book about it.

They pretty much said to take what he says about the actual town of Odessa or the people in Odessa with a grain of salt.

It looks like they have switched domains and all the old threads have been deleted.

All I have is this title thread in which I asked the question. I was gj222.
