I bet you guys have to take a second look at the title of this thread and see if lastcat3 indeed said what you thought he said.
Well I did. Writing that makes you think about how cool this show is and causes you to get a little emotional because you are so attached to the characters and sit there after the eppy is over and wonder what could happen next is back. But you know what. I 'aint talking about Friday Night Lights. I'm talking about a show that blows FNL away in every way possible. Yes indeed, this week 'Lost' returned to the airways. For all you guys who might be interested in checking Lost out stop reading now as I am going to start talking about Spoilers. This week we found out about the Oceanic 6. We know who three of them will be but who could the last three be? And what ocurred after the castaways split up into two separate groups that caused Hurley to tell Jack in the flashforward that he shouldn't have gone with Locke (when in the present time Hurley thinks going with Locke is the best bet to survive))? And what causes Jack to spiral downhill into a depressive state later on (which was shown in the season 3 finalie flashforward) as opposed to the season 4 premeir flashforward where Jack seemed perfectly sane. Yes it is nice to have a show back that actually makes you think and use your brain a little bit where you don't have to spend all episode discovering just how poorly created this episode was. In regards to FNL I did think this was one of the better episodes to date. It's funny when they just decide to simplify things and talk about things that the show should be about it gets better. And when they begin trying to tell stories that should be left for more adult oriented dramas the show gets worse. Yes the show just should have been about football, teenage dating life, and other obstacles teenagers have all along. Not murder, 35 year old women lusting over 17 year old boys, stealing money from drug dealers, racism from the 60's......do I need to go on.....there is probably more I could add to this list. Sadly however it looks like the improvements will not last as next weeks episode looks like another stinker (which will likely be the last episode you will see of FNL). Come on now, if coach is going to get jealous enough to beat up his wife's highschool boyfriend they must not have a very solid marriage going (or at least that would be the impression that would give). And she must be fooling around with some 28 year old hard bodied gym rat somewhere. In the end it is obvious that the writers did not have a solid plan for FNL. Them trasferring from what the show should have been about to all these outrageous storylines from episode to episode to me indicates they simply did not know where to go with the show after NBC re-newed it for a second year. And as a result they just started throwing shots out in the dark. |

I know I sound like a bandwagoner, but Friday's episode of FNL was even more poorly scripted than a latter-day (think post-"college") 90210 episode and just about as entertaining.
Why did this show devolve into a teenage sudser? It had so much promise. What, specifically, did I find overly soapy? Smash's locker room speech and contrite apology to his mom was about as maudlin and vanilla as a Lifetime movie. Landry and Tyra have no chemistry and yeah, she's playing him. End of story. We get it - seven is depressed. But are we supposed to believe one pep talk from coach gets him back into state championship form? Julie and mom - awww...my little girl is driving. Could you have considered a "growing up" milestone any more cliche? Riggins and Lyla - the bad boy and the good girl, complete with sexual tension and love-hate tactics. So overdone. What else is there? They've turned my favorite character Julie into a stereotypical ingenue-type teen. They've completely forgotten about Street. They let whole plots go unexplained and unexplored. They focus on the most uninteresting characters (Landry and Tyra). After next week's ep, which does appear as if it's going to be the show's nadir, I think FNL will cease to be "appointment TV" for me. I will watch it when I can. SUCH A SHAME |

Hey PRguy,
Lol, I wonder what the people who created this site think of us. Sure we have made it a strictly negative site towards the show but we have given the board alot more activity than it would of had if people were only posting positive things about it. I believe I have said this a few times but in my opinion the main downfall of the show was a complete lack of planning (or at least very poor planning). They had a one season plan (which mainly was just an expanded script off of the movie) and after that they were in the dark. And to a lesser degree I believe they started putting some things in the show that all the teeny boppers would like (lots of Riggins and various female skin). From what you describe PRguy in what you are looking for from the shows that you watch I really do think you would really like 'Lost'. If you're interested here is a website where you can watch watch all the episodes in HD quality free over your computer. http://dynamic.abc.go.com/streaming/landing Start with the Pilot episodes in season 1 and work your way from there. I know the first ten or so episodes are in order (after that you might want to double check just to make sure the next one the website lists is the one that was shown on television (as they all are episodic order and each episode builds off the previous one). The second episode of season 4 will air this Thursday. |
