Main / Friday Night Lights Forum / General FNL Talk / There was actually a couple things I liked about this eppy

I thought that this was a pretty good episode on some points. I thought the whole recruiting deal was really done well (especially when Coach started talking with Smash which colleges would be the best fit based upon the current strengths and weaknesses of each team (didn't think FNL was capable of depths like that).

Even though Riggins/Julie story line was off to a rather forced start I thought they handled it rather decently in this episode (personally though I don't think it should have been a storyline at all because Coach Taylor should have figured out what was going on from the beginning (oh well they needed something to fill another episode).

And I think the best part was the fact that it looks like they are getting rid of the wife's sister (she had been bringing down the show ever since she came in).

Now here are some things I didn't like. The whole ending to the game just seemed bizarre and out of place like many of the other things in this series are. If they want this show to be taken seriously they need to stop putting these immature stories in like the coach running onto the field to tackle Riggins when he was going in for the game winning touchdown. It's like the whole 'wife dying of cancer' revelation was just put in there to make up for the horrific storytelling that just preceeded it.

And oh my gosh this Tim and his brother stealing money from a drug dealer is about as dumb as the murder plot was. Do they not think that the guy isn't going to know where his money is stashed and who took it. Let's see here, my money is gone and at the same time my roomate's things are gone. Could it be that my roomate came in and took the money. The only people that that storyline will satisfy are the 16 year old girls and that's only because Riggins will be in it.

Oh well. The season started with a horrific storyline and I guess it will end with a horrific storyline. And that will be all folks. There will be other better put together programs that will deserve to take the place of this mess next season.

I thought it was a great episode, and I even enjoyed the ending of the game.  As bizarre as that did seem, that sort of stuff does happen sometimes.  I actually played in a game once where the same thing happened, but it was another player who stepped off the sidelines to bring our guy down.  And the cancer twist on the coach's wife made it make more sense.  Many people do unexplainable things when they feel like their life is falling apart.  With losing his wife, he felt football was all he had left and he saw that slipping away too.
I love the characters, and love the storylines.  If anything, like some others who have written here, I'd like to see the high school boys/older women scenarios diminished (although I do like Carlotta!!)

It's funny - I'm usually this show's biggest apologist, but I thought this ep was terrible. The unbelievable football game and the coach's actions explained by grief? Do we care enough about this character to care whether he's grieving? I don't. The Riggins brothers reconciling was OK, but I agree with lastcat...of course the crazy crankhead is going to come looking for his money. Nobody ever said Riggins was smart.

Again, why are we focusing on these characters exclusively? Nothing more about Buddy, Lyla, Street, etc.? What about the juvenile delinquent? And can Julie get another love interest, please? She's got to stop pining over Matt sometime.

I thought the whole ep was kind of cheesy, actually. But still better than most of the crap on TV. My wife watches some horrible show called Moonlighting (not the Cybil Shepherd/Bruce Willis one) while I Tivo FNL and man, this show makes FNL look like Citizen Kane.

I just looked at some of the old threads on this forum real quick. And in one of the threads a quote was made seemingly from the guy who plays Coach Taylor on the show regarding a possibility of a season 2 (the quote looks like it was made last year when it was still up in the air about a season 2 or not).

Quoting the page:

Kyle: I've never been part of such a great show! So many reviews say we're a great show, so I look at it like the little engine that could. We're just continuing to struggle a long and the second season, we're gonna do some damage and get some great ratings!! We're gonna kick some ass! We're gonna open a can of whoops ass on these folks, be prepared! We're just so excited to get a second chance, we're HUNGRY to make it work and make it even better. We're gonna have a great year!!

Anyway I'd just like to know where all the arse kicking is. It looks like the only can of whoopin FNL opened was on themselves. And the ratings have only gotten worse oh by the way.

btw is it rly true that there r only 15 episodes in total in season 2 cuz of the strikes in hollywood?

Yep that is what I have heard. I believe it will be sometime in March when when they run out of eppys.

And the people who are still into the show by then better hit nbc hard Jericho style if they want it to come on again after the strike is over.

I won't be one of the ones demanding its renewal but for those who do want it back better start pre-ordering those bags of nuts right away.
